Gatsby, Gold and Gun Metal Ball Point Blank material: Burl and Blue Resin, Padauk
The wood for the pen is made from burl that has been injected under high pressure with blue resin to stabilize the wood and Padauk. Rings are created by cutting small square pieces, stacking, and gluing them together to form pen blank. The wood is shaped on a lathe with chisels, then sanded to 3,200 grit sandpaper. 12 coats of Cyanoacrylate (CA glue) is applied to the wood and wet sanded to 12,000 grit sandpaper. The wood is then buffed on a cloth wheel with ultra-fine grit to remove scratches and add luster. Carnauba wax is then applied to wood and buffed to protect the finish.
